Why should I go to the dentist regularly?

Many of us does not visit a dentist regularly, but only going when we have oral health related problems. This is mainly due to the assumption of saving money. This practice however, would result in a more expensive treatment cost later on and more time spent to solve the problem. Most dental problems, does not shows signs and symptoms until it is too late. A more complex disease is more costly and need a longer time to treat.

How much time should I allocate for a dental treatment/appointment?

It all depends on the condition of the patient and how serious is the disease. On average, it is best to allocate at least 30 minutes for a visit to Dental Clinic.

Why should I floss? Is it not enough to brush? 

Flossing is done to reduce the number of bacteria in a person’s mouth. Bacteria is contained in food debris that can be eliminated through flossing. Brushing functions to remove most food debris but not all. Floss is able to go to areas in between teeth to clean out those areas. If flossing is not practiced, the food debris will harden, forming calculus. Calculus cannot be removed simply by brushing, but instead requires professional treatment.

How should I prevent tooth decay?

Tooth decay happens as a result of poor oral health care and unhealthy diet. 5 steps to prevent tooth decay : 1.Brushing 2 times a day(after breakfast and before sleep) 2.Use fluoridated toothpaste 3.Rinse after a meal 4.Floss after eating 5.Have a regular dental check-up

Why should a dentist take x-ray?

Many dental diseases cannot be simply detected using the naked eye. X-ray enables a dentist to detect: 1.Unseen tooth decay area, e.g. inner part, in between teeth 2.Gum problem 3.Area of pus 4.Tumour / cyst / abnormal growth 5.Tooth root infection Early detection and treatment of an oral health disease could save time, money and reduce discomfort. X-ray is able to detect unseen damages to oral structures. The dentist will determine the need to take an X-ray.

What is the use of fissure sealant?

American Dental Association has stated that fissure sealant are one of the weapons in combatting tooth decay. Fissure sealant is a barrier placed on the deepest part of chewing surface on a tooth. Fissure sealant plays an important role as a protection to tooth decay.

What causes bad breath in the morning?

When an individual sleeps, the saliva production decreases. Decrease of salivary flow, results in bacteria being able to conduct its digestive process in the oral cavity without any obstruction. This in turn, produces sulphur as waste. Sulphur is naturally smelly. However, a prolonged bad breath even after brushing, may suggest a more serious problem. It is suggested that you visit a dentist as soon as possible if you encounter this problem.

What is a periodontal disease?

A periodontal disease is a disease involving infection and inflammation towards the gums and tooth supporting structures such as the bone. If the disease is not treated, it may result in bone destruction, which may lead to tooth loss. Untreated periodontal disease are attributed to increases risk in conditions such as heart diseases, stroke, low birth weight babies, premature birth, respiratory diseases and cancer. Some of signs of periodontal disease includes: 1.Bad breath 2.Inflamed gums 3.Loose tooth 4.Sensitive teeth 5.Pus around tooth area 6.Discomfort while chewing 7.Bleeding gum Early stage of gum disease could be treated easily; however, a more advanced stage may require surgery. Periodontal disease could be prevented and treated successfully if check-up are done regularly and oral health care treatment is done properly.

What can I do about bleeding gums?

Bleeding gums is one of the symptoms of periodontal disease. Most of the time, individuals with bleeding gums stops brushing regularly for fear of gum bleeding and pain. Visiting dental clinic for the solution of bleeding gums.

I am pregnant. How does this affect my oral status?

I am using a denture(gigi palsu). Is there a need for me to see a dentist?

Visiting a dentist is more than simply checking teeth. Although patients using dentures no longer need to worry about tooth decay, denture problems still need to be checked. Oral cancer detection and denture replacement could be done. Denture fabrication should be done in clinic and not by irresponsible parties.
